“Tribute to Dan Gurney” by Danny Day – Signed by Dan Gurney

The Second image is professionally photographed pryor to Dan Gurney Autographing the painting. The first image is my attempt to photograph the painting.

An exceptional and historically significant original oil on canvas by acclaimed automotive artist Danny Day, titled “Tribute to Dan Gurney.” This dramatic and beautifully executed composition honors one of the greatest and most influential figures in motorsports history.

The painting features Dan Gurney alongside two legendary race cars closely associated with his extraordinary career: the iconic Ford GT40 and the famous Eagle-Weslake Formula One car developed by Gurney’s own All American Racers team. The Eagle-Weslake is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful Formula One cars ever built and remains one of the most historically important American racing cars of all time.

Personally autographed by Dan Gurney, this original work is far more than automotive art — it is a tribute to an American racing legend.

About Dan Gurney

Dan Gurney was one of the most accomplished and respected figures in international motorsports history. A rare talent who succeeded as a driver, constructor, engineer, and innovator, Gurney competed successfully in Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR, Can-Am, and endurance racing.

He achieved victories for legendary teams including Ferrari, Porsche, Brabham, and Ford, but his greatest achievements came through his own All American Racers organization and the iconic Eagle race cars he helped create. In 1967, Gurney won the Belgian Grand Prix driving the Eagle-Weslake Formula One car, becoming one of the very few drivers in history to win a Formula One race in a car of his own construction.

Just one week earlier, Gurney and A.J. Foyt won the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans in the legendary Ford GT40 Mk IV, defeating Ferrari and cementing Ford’s dominance at Le Mans. Following that victory, Gurney famously sprayed champagne on the podium — a celebration widely credited as the origin of the champagne-spraying tradition still seen in motorsports today.

Gurney also collaborated with famed engineer Harry Weslake to develop the revolutionary Gurney-Weslake engines and cylinder heads that later powered the Ford GT40 to consecutive Le Mans victories in 1968 and 1969.

Today, Dan Gurney is remembered not only as one of America’s greatest racing drivers, but also as one of the true innovators who shaped modern motorsports.

This is an original one-of-a-kind oil painting — not a print or reproduction.
